Barn Cat Program: Barn Homes Always Needed
Since its founding in early 2008, Alley Cats and Angels has placed over 125 spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ear-cropped cats in barn/garden homes in locations including (but not limited to) Bahama, Chapel Hill, Henderson, Hillsborough, Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount, Selma, Warrenton, Youngsville, and Zebulon.
Alley Cats and Angels places sterilized feral and semi-feral cats into barns/similar location as non-toxic pest control. These are feral and semi-feral cats that absolutely must be relocated from their current environment for various reasons (currently in high-risk locations). These cats are feral or semi-feral, they are not adoptable as pets and prefer the freedom of a "working life" in a rural area to a comfortable lap in suburbia.
Supporting a barn cat is a safe and inexpensive way to control the rodent population. There are no poisons for children and pets to get into and no need to set nasty traps. This environmentally friendly pest control saves you money and prevents the horses, livestock, and dogs from being accidentally poisoned.
All cats are fully vetted (spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, and treated for fleas) and ear-tipped.
The tendency of feral cats is to return to their previous location, therefore we must relocate them properly. We bring the cats to your property in cages for a two to three week relocation period. During this acclimation period, the cats become accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells of their new environment. When the cats are released from their cages after this time period, they will help resolve your rodent problems. All you have to do is care for the cats while they are confined and then continue to provide food, water, and shelter for them after release.

You will most likely enjoy watching the cats, learning their habits, and communicating with them. It can be tremendously satisfying to know you have saved their lives by giving them their much-needed home. Many people appreciate the cats themselves as well as the work the cats do — keeping rodents away from electrical wires, motor homes, hay, and many other things. There is nothing else quite like having a daily relationship with these feral and semi-feral cats.
Alley Cats and Angels is seeking garden/barn/shed/outbuildings for these cats. If you own, or manage property and have permission for long-term placement of animals on the property, please click here to fill our our online Barn Cat Application or call 919-303-3500. We will assist you through the relocation with guidance and support to help the cats settle into their new home.
We will travel up to two hours from the Triangle, NC area to place the cats and can have them working for you by as early as next weekend.
This is a FREE service (but donations are greatly appreciated and help cover part of the cost of their veterinary care and helps fund our barn cat program)..
We have received very positive feedback in terms of reduced rodent and snake problems from the rural homes and farms that have adopted barn cats from Alley Cats and Angels.
